Andrew Lewis is widely respected for his thoughtful and incisive work, expressed through clear, sharp writing and a meticulous attention to detail. He practices as a litigator in a wide variety of employment, civil, commercial and administrative matters.
In employment law, Andrew is frequently consulted in contract negotiations as well as termination and constructive dismissal. In commercial litigation, he is often involved in shareholder and contract disputes. He has appeared before all levels of court, many tribunals, and has acted in a range of mediations and arbitrations. Andrew is also responsible for the firm’s internal conflict management and is one of the creative drivers behind the firm’s beloved, irreverent holiday cards.

Representative Work
- Cycle Toronto et al. v. Attorney General of Ontario et al.: Successfully acted for cycling Advocacy group Cycle Toronto and two individual applicants by preventing the Ontario government from removing the protected bike lanes on Bloor St, University Ave and Yonge St. The court found that doing so infringes s.7 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms (final relief: 2025 ONSC 4397; interim injunction granted: 2025 ONSC 2424; interim injunction initially denied 2025 ONSC 1650.
- Acted in 2024 and 2025 in a private arbitration in which the opposing party sought to remove counsel for an alleged conflict of interest. Successfully opposed the motion and client granted full indemnity costs.
- Ontario Place for All Inc. v. Ontario Ministry of Infrastructure: Acting for citizens group Ontario Place For All in its attempt to require the Ontario Government to conduct an Environmental Assessment before destroying Ontario Place to construct a gigantic glass spa on public waterfront land (2024 ONSC 1783 and 2024 ONSC 3327)
- Inquiry Counsel to The Honourable Mr. Justice Herman J. Wilton-Siegel, Commissioner of the City of Hamilton’s Red Hill Valley Parkway Inquiry, 2019-2023.
- Oliveira v. Oliveira: defendant found liable for defamation, and a permanent injunction issued (2019 ONSC 4400).
- Cannon v. Funds for Canada Foundation: principles to be applied in determining when individuals who have opted out of a class action can opt back in (2014 ONSC 2259).
- Cytrynbaum v. Look Communications Inc.: right of corporate officers and directors to advancement of legal fees from corporation in lawsuit brought by that corporation against them (2013 ONCA 455).
- Richards v. Media Experts M.H.S. Inc.: Statement of claim asserting tort claims against individual officer of the defendant employer struck out in wrongful dismissal claim, based on exclusionary clause in the employment contract (2012 ONCA 769) (2012 ONSC 3518).
- Labatt Brewing Company Ltd. v. NHL Enterprises Canada,L.P. (2011), 106 O.R. (3d) 677 (C.A); setting aside 2011 ONSC 3219 Procedural fairness arising from injunction granted by Superior Court.
