Dan is a problem solver with a deep knowledge of the law. His practice focuses primarily on commercial, employment, and public law litigation.
During law school, Dan received course prizes for highest standing in nine courses, including administrative law, civil procedure, taxation, constitutional law, and legal ethics. Dan also served on the editorial board of the Queen’s Law Journal and as a peer tutor.
Dan’s commercial litigation practice includes the following reported cases:
- As lead counsel, Dan successfully argued a complex garnishment motion relating to a director’s right to indemnity for liability in oppression: Alharayeri v. Wilson, 2018 ONSC 6309.
- As lead counsel, Dan successfully argued a summary judgment motion in which he secured approximately $1 million in damages for breach of contract: Dhillon v. Stewart, 2018 ONSC 4004.
Dan's public law cases include the following:
- Dan was co-counsel to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal responding to a constitutional challenge to the application of privacy legislation to Ontario tribunals. The application was granted in respect of every tribunal except WSIAT: Toronto Star v. AG Ontario, 2018 ONSC 2586, 142 O.R. (3d) 266.
- Dan was co-counsel to two health regulatory colleges in an application concerning the constitutional applicability of Ontario health care legislation to an online eyewear retailer: College of Optometrists of Ontario et al. v. Essilor Group Canada Inc., 2018 ONSC 206, 2019 ONCA 265.
