Robert A. Centa B.A., LL.B.

Called to the bar in 2001

 

Robert Centa acts in all areas of advocacy, with an emphasis on public law and business litigation.

In 2007, he was appointed Assistant Commission Counsel to the Goudge Inquiry into Pediatric Forensic Pathology in Ontario. He is Assistant Discipline Counsel for the University of Toronto, and acted for the City of Toronto at the Toronto Computer Leasing Inquiry. He appeared on behalf of Human Rights Watch and the International Human Rights Law Clinic (University of Toronto) before the Supreme Court of Canada.

He has also acted for clients in partnership and shareholder rights disputes, major insolvencies, and commercial arbitrations.

In November 2008, Lexpert named Mr. Centa one of Canada’s leading lawyers under the age of 40. He has also been recognized in the Best Lawyers in Canada (2006 to 2009) and Lexpert (2005) as a public law litigator.

In 1999, Mr. Centa received the gold medal and the Dean Cecil A. Wright Key from the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto. Prior to his call to the Ontario Bar, Mr. Centa clerked for the Justices of the Court of Appeal for Ontario. Mr. Centa has authored many articles and conference papers.

In 2008 the University of Toronto awarded Mr. Centa the Arbor Award for outstanding voluntary service to the University of Toronto. Since 1999, he has taught Trial Advocacy at the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto, and is a past Council Member of its Alumni Association (1999 to 2004).
