Megan Shortreed practices in the areas of corporate, commercial, employment, civil and administrative litigation. She received her law degree from Dalhousie University in 1995. She has an honours degree in Chemistry from Queen's University.
She has been involved in cases before all levels of court, including the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. She also has extensive hearings experience before professional disciplinary tribunals. Ms. Shortreed appears often as prosecuting counsel before the discipline committees of the various health and other professions. In addition, she has acted in defence of professionals before various regulatory tribunals and in civil matters.
Ms. Shortreed has advised clients and acted as counsel in the resolution of disputes in all areas of corporate and commercial activity. She has represented corporate and individual clients in matters involving shareholder and partnership disputes, fiduciary duties of directors and employees, creditors' rights, and other complex commercial cases. She acts often on behalf of executives terminated from employment. Ms. Shortreed has appeared in several cases on the Toronto Commercial List.
Ms. Shortreed is active in The Advocates' Society. She participates regularly as a panelist and instructor in law school and CLE programs. She is actively involved in Paliare Roland’s student program and acts as a mentor to students and associates.
Ms. Shortreed is a member of the Board of Directors for the Homes First Society, a charitable organization which works with those with the fewest options to break the cycle of homelessness in Toronto. Homes First develops innovative housing and owns and manages 15 shelter and housing sites providing varying levels of support to over 500 tenants. |
