Working at Paliare Roland

Broad experience. Excellent colleagues

Working at
Paliare Roland

Our goal is to hire and develop excellent advocates. Our associates, summer students and articling students are exposed to a wide range of files, affording them the opportunity to touch virtually every aspect of our practice. We encourage each individual to develop their interests and become well-rounded lawyers, and we believe that this approach makes for a more vital, more successful—and frankly more interesting—place to work.

As a boutique firm, we have a supportive, close-knit and collegial atmosphere, where lawyers and support staff are generous with time and guidance. Ours is a culture of discussion and debate. We regularly gather in our lunchroom to discuss our cases and current events. On files, all team members, including students, are encouraged to contribute to the development of case strategy. Our casual office environment seeks to break down the barriers found in traditional legal environments.

We believe that a diverse and inclusive firm is a more effective firm; we aspire to bring to bear a wide range of perspectives, opinions and experiences in all our work. We have adopted policies and practices that seek to enhance inclusion in recruitment, retention and advancement for women and members of equity-deserving groups. While we continue to expand our efforts at diversifying our team, we are proud that half of our lawyers are women, several senior female partners are among Canada’s top litigators, and our Managing Partner is a woman. Since the inception of the firm, we have created an environment where women thrive.

Our work on diversity and inclusion continues. Our Inclusion Committee is made up of both partners and associates, and coordinates diversity education sessions and supports the work of equity-deserving groups in the legal community. Within the firm, we have conducted training sessions on unconscious bias and anti-oppression frameworks. We build in diversity and inclusion considerations into all stages of recruitment, retention and advancement, including prioritizing candidates with divergent experiences, achievements and backgrounds.

In keeping with guidelines set out by the Law Society of Ontario, we hire a number of summer students each fall, and articling students on occasion. As a boutique firm, we value students as key members of our team, and bring them into the fold with meaningful case work and mentorship opportunities.
