Paliare Roland is a top-tier litigation boutique. We embrace complexity to produce intelligent solutions.

Paliare Roland is a litigation boutique in Toronto. The firm is widely considered to be among Canada’s finest collection of advocates, distinguished by its capacity to navigate complex matters and high-stakes cases with rigour, clarity and integrity.

Our practice comprises a large but close-knit group of lawyers, whose interests and areas of expertise are diverse, but whose approach is uniformly thoughtful, nuanced and effective. Our team is also unified in its commitment to serving our clients’ interests at the highest level, and to a sensible, civil approach to conflict resolution. As a result of this approach, we have earned not only an exceptional track record of successful outcomes for clients, but also a sterling reputation within the legal community itself. Today, many of our referrals come from fellow lawyers, including the senior leadership of Canada’s best-known firms.

Paliare Roland counts among its lawyers some of Canada’s foremost experts in commercial and civil litigation, labour law, class actions, professional discipline and regulation, complex financial matters, administrative and constitutional law, and more. We have argued before every level of court, shaping landmark decisions, settlements and precedents, and our lawyers have led or supported some of Canada’s most prominent public inquiries and judicial reviews.

The firm, in short, is respected for its intelligence and its integrity, known above all for excellence in advocacy and the art of persuasion.

Our Values

Our work is exceptionally diverse, but our practice is underpinned by a clear, consistent set of values, which shape everything we do.

  • Excellence

We are a litigation boutique with a broad range of expertise and experience. We are routinely involved in Canada’s highest profile cases, whether complex commercial litigation or class actions,  professional discipline or labour disputes. We are trusted to manage the most sensitive legal issues facing businesses of every size, individuals, labour unions, professional regulatory bodies, academic institutions, and public interest organizations. We are devoted to excellence in advocacy in every area of our practice.

  • Integrity

Much of our work is referred to us from other lawyers. We respect referrals from other law firms. We appreciate that our colleagues place their trust in us to deal with matters important to their clients. We recognize that other lawyers refer clients to us for a specific reason, whether because of a conflict or for our expertise in the subject-matter of the case referred to us.

  • Honesty

We take seriously our obligations as officers of the court and members of the Bar. While we represent our clients zealously, we also strive for civility in all of our dealings with other counsel and their clients. We value our reputation as advocates whom courts, tribunals and opposing counsel can trust. We believe that this approach to practice is not only the right way to practice law.

Firm Awards

Pro Bono

Lawyers have a responsibility to serve the public interest.
Pro Bono

The legal profession occupies a unique role in our community: lawyers are specially trained and hold a monopoly on providing legal services in Ontario. Lawyers have a corresponding responsibility to use that role to serve the public interest. One of the most important ways that lawyers give back is by providing free legal services or services at a reduced rate to individuals and organizations in our community who may not otherwise be able to obtain legal advice or access to justice.

Paliare Roland is very proud of its deep commitment to providing pro bono legal services to our community. We routinely act on important cases for non-profit organizations and individuals who require representation. An important case may be one which advances the law or promotes a social good before the Supreme Court of Canada or an administrative tribunal. An important case may also be one that is of critical importance to an individual who would otherwise not be able to negotiate our complex legal system.

In addition to representing clients on a pro bono basis, we also encourage our lawyers to engage in public service activities that do not involve the delivery of legal services: professional or charitable activities, such as participation on non-profit boards of directors or bar association committees.

Doin' Good

Doin' Good

Every year since its inception, Paliare Roland has donated a portion of its revenue to charitable endeavours locally and abroad. As our revenue grows, so does the money available for charitable giving. We call this our “Doin’ Good” program.
